Microsoft will raise the prices of its Xbox Series X consoles and Game Pass subscription service globally. While the price of the console will remain unchanged in the United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil, and Colombia, the rest of the world will see a price increase to match the PS5’s recent global price increase.
The Verge quoted Kari Perez, chief of communications for Xbox, as saying –
“We’ve held on our prices for consoles for many years and have adjusted the prices to reflect the competitive conditions in each market.”
As of August 1, the new MSRP for the Xbox Series X will be £480 in the United Kingdom, €550 in several European markets, CAD $650 in Canada, and AUD $800 in Australia. Regarding the Xbox Series S, its price will remain unchanged across all markets in which it is sold.
Do you know that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot admitted that the commercial failure of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope was most likely due to the publisher’s choice to release a sequel on Switch against Nintendo’s request to “only do one iteration [of Mario] on each machine”:
In contrast, Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will experience a global price increase beginning July 6. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will increase from $15 to $17 per month in the United States, while Xbox Game Pass will increase from $10 to $11. PC Game Pass prices will remain unchanged, and if you are a current monthly subscriber, these adjustments will not take effect until 13 August, or 13 September if you reside in Germany.
If you have an annual subscription, the new pricing won’t take effect until you renew your membership. When he spoke at a Wall Street Journal event in southern California last October, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer indicated that prices would increase.
Spencer stated at the time –
“I do think at some point we’ll have to raise the prices on certain things, but going into this holiday we thought it was important to maintain the prices.”
If you’re seeking to save money before these new prices take effect, now is a good time to purchase a digital Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership at a discount. Normally, these three-month packages cost $45, but you can now top off your account for the next quarter for only $41.66.
