Why Did Agniveer Amritpal Singh Commit Suicide? Why was ‘Guard of Honor’ not given to Amritpal Singh?

Shock waves blew from Jammu and Kashmir where a new recruit of Agniveer from Punjab committed suicide on October 11, 2023. According to the reports, the deceased was identified as Amritpal Singh from Punjab, an Agniveer recruit. Reportedly, he was serving in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri sector when he decided to take his own life. Agniveer Amritpal Singh was on sentry duty in Jammu and Kashmir. But the young recruit of Agniveer shockingly committed suicide leaving the whole nation shocked and gutted. Why did Amritpal Singh commit suicide and what was the motive of his suicide? Amritpal Singh left innumerable unanswered questions linked to his suicide. Nevertheless, a debate also occurred when the Indian Army did not offer an Army Guard of Honor at Amritpal Singh’s funeral leading the Punjab CM to raise objections to it.

No Army Guard of Honor For Agniveer Amritpal Singh

The young recruit of the Indian Army under the Agniveer recruitment, Amritpal Singh from Punjab ended his life on October 11, 2023, while serving in the Rajouri sector of J&K. Reportedly, Agniveer Amritpal Singh turned the gun at him and shot. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Kindly note that Amritpal Singh’s death is the first death of an Agniveer recruit from Punjab. The Indian army soldier was only 19 years old when he committed suicide while on sentry duty. But it is still under scrutiny as to why Amritpal Singh committed suicide. An investigation is under process.

On Friday, October 13, 2023, the last rite for Amritpal Singh took place in his hometown, Mansa district of Punjab but there was no Army Guard of Honor for Amritpal Singh during his funeral. The late Agniveer recruit was cremated at his native village. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and other political parties of Punjab expressed shock when the Army denied a Guard of Honor for Amritpal Singh.

The White Knight Corps said that no guard of honor or military funeral for Amritpal Singh since his cause of death was self-inflicted, in accordance with existing policy. Although the Indian Army offered its deepest condolences to the bereaved family. The White Knight Corps wrote on Twitter, “In an unfortunate incident, Agniveer Amritpal Singh died while on sentry duty in the Rajouri Sector due to a self-inflicted gunshot injury,” Whereas, the Punjab government raised objection to it with the center. Notably CM Mann announced Rs 1 crore compensation for Amritpal Singh’s family.
