BC RCMP announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with const. Fredrick ‘Rick’ O’Brien’s murder on Saturday, September 23, 2023. According to the official report, the suspect is a Coquitlam man who is facing charges of first-degree murder. The arrested Coquitlam man is identified as Nicolas Bellemare. He is a 25-year-old Coquitlam man. He is charged with first-degree murder of a Ridge Meadows Mountie. Furthermore, BC RCMP also confirmed that the BC Prosecution Service approved the count against the Coquitlam man in connection with the killing of Const. Fredrick ‘Rick’ O’Brian.
Who is Nicolas Bellemare?
As per the information shared by BC RCMP, Nicolas Bellemare is a 25-year-old man from Coquitlam. He is currently under custody on suspicion of killing Const. Fredrick O’Brien in a shooting on Friday, September 22, 2023. As mentioned, the suspect has been charged with first-degree murder, he is also standing accused of attempted murder with a firearm after another officer was shot. It is alleged that Nicolas Bellemare shot another Ridge Meadow detachment officer. According to the reports, Nicolas Bellemare is scheduled to re-appear in the Port Coquitlam Provincial Court on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.
What Happened To Fredrick O’Brien?
Reportedly, Constable Fredrick O’Brien was executing a search warrant in relation to a drug investigation in Maple Ridge. He was not alone, two more officers of the Ridge Meadows detachment were also with him. But suddenly, a shooting occurred in which Fredrick O’Brien got fatally shot in the Evergreen building located on Glen Drive on Friday, September 22, 2023, at around 10 a.m. Kindly note that the third officer of the detachment was also injured in the shooting spree.
