Recently, Iran has executed a 17-year-old on the charge of murder. It has been announced that the 68th child has been convicted and hung to death amid opposition. The name of the 17-year-old is Hamidreza Azari who was executed on 24th November 2023, Friday in prison in the eastern town of Sabzevar in Razavi Khorasan province. This has been announced by the Norway-based Hengaw and Iram Human Rights (IHR) groups. Who Is Hamidreza Azari?

On 25th November 2023, Saturday, two rights groups officially disclosed the news that Iran has recently executed a 17-year-old convicted of murder. Two groups have expressed their outrage that the Israeli Republic is continuing to hang people for crimes who have been convicted by minors. The 17-year-old has been identified as Hamidreza Azari. He was officially executed on 24th November 2023, Friday in the jail in the eastern town of Sabzevar in Razavi Khorasan province. The Persian language satellite Television channel “Iran International” reported that Azari was the only child in his family and just at this age he started working as a scrap worker.

The IHR and Hengaw ha said that Azari was 16 years old when he committed the crime and now he is 17 years old at the time of execution. He has been sentenced to death for killing a man in a brawl in May. Iran is one of the countries that sentence child convicts to death and also execute some juveniles more than all other countries. This has been said by the IHR and they have also stated that as per the record, almost 68 minors have been executed in Iran till now since 2010.

The Director of IHR, Mahmood Amiry Moghaddam has said that in Iran anybody wants a driver’s license so they must be 18 years old but a 15-year-old minor is enough to be executed. On 23rd November 2023, Thursday, the country also executed a man who was in his early 20s. He was one of the eighth people who was hanged in the case which is related to the months of nationwide protests which was gone erupted in September last year. As per the IHR, almost 684 individuals were executed in Iran just in 2023 and most of them were because of the drug-related and murder charges.
