Who was Anthony Ferguson?

The University Medical Center in El Paso confirmed the devastating news of Officer Ferguson’s passing. Meanwhile, the suspect, Dominic De La O, is now in custody at the Otero County Detention Center as the investigation unfolds. This incident marks a somber moment for the Alamogordo Police Department, as Officer Ferguson becomes the first officer killed in the line of duty since Clint Corvinus in 2016.

Alamogordo Mayor Susan Payne expressed deep concern about De La O’s previous history of suspected violent crimes. She firmly believes that he should never have been released from custody. Payne’s sentiments were shared by residents Jessica Smith and Rudy Contreras, who accused De La O of causing the death of Donovan Contreras in 2019, as reported by the Alamogordo Daily News. Although De La O was never charged in relation to that case, many believed that he should have been incarcerated to prevent further harm.

Officer Ferguson sustained severe injuries during the incident and was immediately flown to UMC-El Paso for treatment. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of skilled medical professionals, he succumbed to his wounds the following day. This loss has deeply affected the entire community, which has come together to honor and remember the officer who served diligently with the Alamogordo Police Department for 11 years.
