The conflict between Hamas and Israel does not seem to slow down soon as the Israeli army constantly unleashes Operation Swords of Iron and ground offensive on Gaza. So far more than 3400 people have been killed in the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel. Amid the escalating situation between Palestine and Israel, numerous countries tried to intervene. Many countries decided to support Israel such as the US, EU, and the UK while others are standing with Palestine as Israel has lost the moral high ground through continuous bombardment. Amid all, the focus has been shifted to Iran which is one of the strongest supporters of Hamas. Now it is being speculated if Iran would escalate the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel. Let’s unfold more details and try to understand what is the stance of Iran in this war.
The war started on Saturday, October 7, 2023, when Hamas ‘Al Aqsa Flood’ surprisingly attacked Israel leading the Israeli government to declare war on Hamas. In response to Hamas’s attack, Israel has been continuously unleashing Operation Swords of Iran on Gaza. Recently, Israel also launched a missile at Al Ahli Hospital located in Gaza where hundreds of Palestinian people mostly women and children, died. However, The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) blamed the attack on Palestinian Islamic Jihad, while the Palestinians accused Israel of the massacre.
Now all eyes are on Iran who is one of the strongest supporters of Hamas. Kindly note that, when Hamas surprisingly attacked Israel, Iran lauded its action. Iran also has warned of further expansion of the ongoing war. Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, called on the United Nations to probe this war crime and said, “In the continuation of its shameful crimes against the Palestinian nation, by committing this heinous and horrible crime, the Zionist regime once again showed its ferocity and cowardice to the whole world ….”
Earlier Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister of Iran, warned that if the Israeli army did not stop its attack on Gaza new fronts would be opened. After the Hamas attacks on Israel, attention has been focused on Iran which is one of the most steadfast supporters of Hamas, militarily, politically, and financially. In fact, Iran was the first country that did not condemn Hamas’s unprecedented attack on Israel but also expressed support for the “Palestinian Resistance”.
