Warzone 2: Some players of the popular battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone 2 feel that the underwater combat mechanics in the game are too powerful, while others feel the opposite.
Not everyone agrees, but it’s been speculated that this feature of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will soon be significantly nerfed.
After the announcement of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 in September 2017, developers Infinity Ward and Raven Software promised that underwater combat would be a major new addition to the series.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 gives players unprecedented freedom of movement on bodies of water thanks to the inclusion of boats.
However, the developers’ approach to underwater combat in the new battle royale game has not been universally well-received by players.

A recent Reddit thread highlighting the strategic benefits of diving during encounters sparked a wide-ranging discussion on whether or not Infinity Ward and Raven Software overbalanced the abilities associated with swimming and diving.
Many players have claimed that it is currently easier to win in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 by dipping in and out of the water. When a player dives into the water, they not only immediately conceal themselves from their enemies, but they also gain a defensive advantage.
One player explained, “The water works like a shield, even if you are at the surface,” likening swimming to having an extra Warzone 2 Armor Plate.

A second player noted that a healthy participant can remain submerged for 26 seconds, making it simple to use diving as a flanking or evasion tactic when outgunned.
It’s unclear if developers Infinity Ward and Raven Software will rework Warzone 2’s swimming and diving systems, but doing so wouldn’t be out of the ordinary.
Despite the game’s short lifespan, it has already undergone multiple nerfs, the most recent of which was implemented as part of the DMZ update only a few weeks ago.

Many overpowered enemies in specific areas of that PvE mode were nerfed in that update. After launching in the middle of November, Activision‘s newest free-to-play battle royale game had a very successful start, reaching 25 million players in less than a week.
However, since then, the number of people playing Warzone 2 has been steadily declining. Since launch, its Steam version has lost about a third of its player base. Warzone 2 of Call of Duty is now available for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
