Get Ready for Tokyo Revengers Season 2 Release Date, Watch Info, and What to Expect!

Tokyo Revengers Season 2 Release Date After 24 jaw-dropping episodes, Liden Films wrapped up the first season of Tokyo Revengers in September 2021.

As the season concluded, viewers were left wondering how Takemichi, the show’s protagonist, would make it through the ordeal. Well, with the upcoming premiere of the second season of the anime series, we’ll soon find out.

Because of its fresh plot and shady protagonists, the anime series became an overnight sensation. Due to their admiration for Takemichi, many viewers continued the manga series after Season 1 ended.

Season 2 of the anime will cover the events of the Christmas Showdown arc of the manga, so it’s no surprise that Liden Films decided to renew the show so quickly.

When will the second season of Tokyo Revengers be available?

Release dates for the first episode of Season 2 of Tokyo Revengers are set for either Saturday, January 7, or Sunday, January 8, 2023. Episode 1 will premiere in Japan at 2:08 AM on January 8th, but due to the time difference, most international fans won’t be able to watch it until January 7th.

Both Disney Plus and Hulu have purchased the rights to stream Season 2, but neither service has announced when Season 2 will begin airing. If Disney and Hulu continue their tradition of simultaneous releases, Episode 1 will be available for streaming in your region on the following dates and times.

  • Pacific Time – 9:08 AM PT (Saturday, January 7th)
  • Central Time – 11:08 AM CT (Saturday, January 7th)

  • British Time – 5:08 PM GMT (Saturday, January 7th)

  • Indian Time – 10:38 PM IST (Saturday, January 7th)

Episode Count for Season 2 of Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers Season 2 will reportedly have 13 episodes, but Liden Films has not yet confirmed this. Considering that the first season of Tokyo Revengers had 24 episodes, this is understandably disappointing to some viewers.

Therefore, fans of the anime anticipated that it would return with two full seasons (24-26 episodes) of new content.

The Christmas Showdown Arc, which contains about 45 chapters, is all that will be adapted in the second season, so it makes sense that the season will be shorter. Meanwhile, the first season focused on the first 74 chapters of the manga.

A New Streaming Home Is Identified for Tokyo Revengers Season 2

Even though Kodansha’s fan-favorite manga Tokyo Revengers ended in November 2022, the time-traveling gangster saga will not be going away from public view any time soon, what with the anime currently in production for a second season.

Tokyo Revengers Season 2 will premiere on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ in Japan, it was announced in a trailer released on Youtube.

Beginning on Sunday, January 8, 2023, viewers in Japan will be able to watch the new season on Disney+ Japan, while viewers in the United States will be able to watch the new season on Hulu beginning on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War has a similar division of streaming rights, so this is not unprecedented. As evidenced by the new streaming framework, the anime industry has changed significantly since the first season of Tokyo Revengers debuted on Crunchyroll.

As a result, anime’s profile skyrocketed during that time. Kodansha and other anime production studios have, on the one hand, been actively seeking new audiences for their works.

Companies like Disney, which doesn’t offer a lot of anime, have been keen to add more of it to their networks to attract more viewers.

It came as no surprise when Disney and Kodansha announced a deepening of their partnership that will result in the co-production of original anime content and grant Disney exclusive rights to anime adaptations of Kodansha’s manga titles.

The “anime problem” at Disney has been mostly solved, seeing as Kodansha’s Shonen Weekly Magazine is arguably the second most popular manga content generator in Japan.

The partnership also provides Kodansha with the opportunity to promote its content in conjunction with a major player in the international animation industry. Tokyo Revengers’ release on Disney+ and Hulu represents the new company’s first major action.

Tokyo Revengers: Season 2: What to Expect

The announcement video hints that the new season of Tokyo Revengers will adapt the Christmas Showdown arc from the manga.

In this arc, Takemichi Hanagaki, the series’ protagonist, travels back in time to try to alter the present day, where the same Tokyo street gang that killed his friends before still operates.

Takemichi’s next time travel adventure is focused on undoing the events he didn’t realize he needed to change the future, specifically the merger of the Black Dragon and Tokyo Revengers’ Tokyo Manij gangs.

A Christmas Eve showdown between the Black Dragons and the Tokyo Meiji gangs is precipitated by Takemichi’s manipulations and has far-reaching consequences for both the past and the present.

No doubt the Christmas Showdown arc will go down in Tokyo Revengers lore as a defining moment, but that won’t be the end of the story by any means.

Based on the reception of both the manga and the anime so far, a third season of Tokyo Revengers probably won’t be unexpected. Kodansha’s decision to work with Disney on this project suggests the company has ambitious plans for the series.
