Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of Trinamool Congress Party said they would continue to protest until the dues of the MGNREGA scheme for the people of West Bengal are released by the Central government. He added, “The agitation will continue till the rightful dues of the people of Bengal are released by the Centre,” This statement came after Abhishek Banerjee arrived in Delhi on Sunday, October 1, 2023, before the party MPs and state minister started the peaceful protest at Rajghat. Sources have said that as many as 49 buses left Kolkata and other districts of the state on Saturday night. They are expected to arrive in Delhi by early Monday morning.
Sudip Bandopadhyay who is an MP of the TMC party said following a top TMC meeting held at the residence of Sougata Roy, said, “Tomorrow, we will be going to Raj Ghat to pay obesience to Mahatma Gandhi. We will start our protest from there. MGNREGA or Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, which is a vital objective of our protest, has a symbolic relation with Gandhiji. Hence we are starting the protest from there,” The further schedule of TMC leaders’ protest will be shared on October 3.
