Gameplay Footage of ‘Tales of Symphonia’ Remastered Revealed in Latest Trailer!

Tales of Symphonia: A new gameplay trailer for Tales of Symphonia Remastered was released recently by Bandai Namco. The remaster, which was announced in September 2022, will be released on February 17, 2023, for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

The fifth game in the Tales series, Tales of Symphonia was created by Namco Tales Studio for the Nintendo GameCube and later ported to the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PC. Lloyd Irving leads the party through the world as they follow the Chosen One, Colette Brunel, on her journey to restore the world’s Mana.

The party learns that their world, Sylvarant, is in a constant struggle for Mana with another world, Tethe’alla, and they must figure out a way to save both worlds while also foiling the plans of a villainous organization called Cruxis.

While the first trailer for Tales of Symphonia Remastered highlighted the story, this new one puts the spotlight on the action. Some clips of Lloyd exploring the cities and overworld are included, but the trailer focuses primarily on describing the game’s combat system.

In particular, it highlighted a number of the game’s Techs, which function in much the same way as abilities and spells do in other fantasy role-playing games. These Techs have both offensive and defensive components.

The trailer additionally provided an explanation of Unison Attacks in Tales of Symphonia Remastered. The Unity Gauge, which can be seen above the party’s portraits, fills up as each member deals damage to an enemy.

At full capacity, the Gauge triggers a devastating, party-wide attack that could end the fight on the spot. Restoring Health and Tech Points through cooking was another topic covered in the trailer. Combat in Tales of Symphonia utilizes the Multi-Line Linear Motion Battle System and is fought on an instanced battle screen.

In action role-playing game combat, players take charge of one of four party members while the other three are handled by artificial intelligence.

In Tales of Symphonia, the player can predetermine how the AI will act, and the remaster adds support for two to four-player co-op using the same system.

The original Tales of Symphonia was well-received, with the Game Cube release receiving an impressive 86 average out of 100 possible points on the review aggregation site Metacritic.

Some critics felt the character designs were less interesting and the animation was less expressive than in the previous installment, but many praised the game’s 3D environments and anime-inspired visuals.

The narrative of Tales of Symphonia also proved divisive, with players having varying reactions to its dialogue, pacing, depth, and emotional resonance. Despite that, Tales of Symphonia became the best-selling Tales game to date.

On February 17, Tales of Symphonia Remastered will be available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox One S.
