Tales of Symphonia Remastered Gameplay
The gameplay in Tales of Symphonia is standard fare for Japanese role-playing games. The massive overworld field map, as well as the smaller town and dungeon maps, are used for player travel throughout the game world. They will likely engage in combat with any adversaries they come across on their journey.
The game’s battle system is based on linear motion with multiple lines. Imagine a line from your character to the target foe. Within a three-dimensional battleground, players are free to traverse that line in either direction. When the players swap targets, the path they can take also shifts. Imagine a pseudo-3D battleground where your freedom of movement is severely limited.

During fights, the AI will take charge of any characters you aren’t managing directly. Each time you or a member of your party deals damage to the adversary, the “Unison Gauge” fills up. When this bar is full, the player can unleash a “Unison Attack,” in which all members of the party employ their skills against a single foe.
In terms of gameplay mechanics, the game has an EX Gem–based skill system wherein players can equip skills to the gems. The character’s skills and spells are determined by their abilities.
