The cat cafe in question is owned by Felicity Banks. Initially, the owner of the cat cafe received an impressive response from the visitors but what led up to the closure of the cat cafe within a week. The news of the cat cafe’s closure surfaced after an animal welfare group seized animals at Tabby Time Cat Cafe after the cat fostering organization promoted the cafe on a social media page in Canberra. The ad campaign reportedly claimed that the cafe would be run from the living room by a woman with visitors having to provide their coffee.

The ad campaign was as “Canberra now has a cat cafe! It is a VERY small cat cafe run from my living room. BYO coffee so I don’t have to get food preparation skills or insurance anytime soon… and six adorable foster kittens, one of whom is still available for adoption!” The woman fixed the price at $25 a child over 10 years old per hour ($50 minimum) and $20 an adult per hour (minimum $40). On Thursday, January 11, 2024, the owner of the cat cafe, Ms Banks shared on the Tabby Time Facebook page to confirm that the cafe had shut down and she has never and would never mistreat animals.
