The team behind Skyblivion has released an update outlining the current state of development and the path ahead, giving players a clearer idea of when they can expect the massive fan project. The project began in 2012, roughly a year after Skyrim’s release, and the team behind it has periodically published information and gameplay footage about the massive Skyrim mod.
Skyblivion is likely to be released before The Elder Scrolls 6 as a stopgap in the lengthy wait for the next official installment in Bethesda’s fan-favorite franchise. The Elder Scrolls Renewal is a volunteer initiative credited with recreating Morrowind in the Oblivion engine and now undertaking the monumental task of recreating both games in the more advanced Skyrim engine.
The respective mod names are Skywind and Skyblivion. While the team has been tight-lipped about the Skywind project thus far, a recent video uploaded to its YouTube channel will provide viewers with a clear picture of how Skyblivion’s development is progressing.
Do you know that Bungie has taken Destiny 2 offline for emergency maintenance following numerous error codes and server instability issues? Season of the Deep was the most recent major update for Destiny 2, which is presently between significant patches:
TES Renewal has published a video outlining the steps necessary to meet the 2025 Skyblivion release target. Several sections of the world map are finalized. Nibenay Valley and Nibenay Basin, two of the remaining world spaces, are nearing conclusion, while the West Weald is 15% complete. There remain 29 world spaces outside of Oblivion, alternate realities, and Oblivion Realms. The group will save these for last.
The crew has also completed nearly half of the 600 interior spaces, including caves, ruins, forts, and castles. In addition, there is still a substantial amount of work to be done on the 3D models; everything from clothing to animals, structures, and trees must be recreated from scratch.
Skyblivion is somewhat playable, as the development team has prioritized confronting the game’s most difficult areas. The video provides a numerical breakdown of the remaining tasks for each aspect of the game. Additionally, the video clarifies that the crew will only tackle DLC areas once Skyblivion is complete.
The Skyblivion project has come a long way and is advancing at a respectable rate, but the video’s narrator mentioned at least a few times that the team needs volunteers to meet the 2025 release date. Skyblivion is currently in development and its release is anticipated for 2025.
