As per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), four people lost their lives in Dahod district, three in Bharuch, two in Tapi, and one each in Ahmedabad, Botad, Kheda, Mehsana, Amreli, Banaskantha, Surat, Surendranagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Panchmahal and Sabarkantham. The previous day, eight people were killed in lightning strikes because the state received widespread unseasonal rains accompanied by thunderstorms. A 22-year-old biker passed away after being struck by lightning in Botad taluka, while a 29-year-old man lost his life after a tree fell on an autorickshaw in Mehsana district. Two farmers were also killed in the Tapi district, and one each in Sabarkantha, Dahod, Ahmedabad and Mehsana districts in lightning strikes that accompanied the rains. PTI news agency reported, 220 of 251 talukas of Guajrat received up to 50 mm of rainfall in 10 hours since 6 am on Sunday, 26 November 2023. Whereas Ahmedabad city received 15 mm of rainfall the previous day. Out-of-the-season rain was caused because of a cyclonic circulation lying over the northeast Arabian Sea and linking Saurashtra and Kutch regions, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated. Meanwhile, IMD has issued a rainfall alert for diverse areas in Maharashtra, southwest Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan for the early hours of Monday.
