Critics liked the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4 a lot in the week before it came out, which wasn’t much of a surprise given how well-liked the original 2005 game was.
But the horror-action game was missing its bonus arcade mode called “The Mercenaries,” which was known for being tough and fun.
Capcom has now said that Resident Evil 4 players will be able to download The Mercenaries for free. The Mercenaries will be in stores on April 7, 2023.
This was shown in the launch trailer for RE4 and on the official RE4 website:
Do you know that the opening village scene in the first Resident Evil 4 is one of the most memorable horror scenes ever? Capcom is remaking the fourth mainline RE game in all its glory for the upcoming remake:
The Mercenaries first appeared in the 2005 version of Resident Evil 4. It has a number of different combat arena stages and a timer that counts down. It challenges you to get the highest score possible by trying to survive endless waves of Resident Evil 4’s toughest enemies.
It stands out because you can play as many of the game’s side characters as well as the main character, Leon Kennedy. Each character has their own set of weapons and way of playing, which can change how you go about things in a big way.
In RE4’s original Mercenaries mode, Ada Wong, Krauser, Hunk, and Albert Wesker were some of the characters you could play as. Adding a new version of this mode to an already impressive game should make it even better and bring back to life one of the best games in the Resident Evil series.
