Capcom decided to release the remake of Resident Evil 4 on PlayStation 4 and current-gen systems, but not Xbox One. Some people aren’t happy with how the game runs on the older console. With the new remake wowing fans and critics alike, the Resident Evil franchise is still in a good place.
Capcom’s series is one of the most popular survival horror franchises in the world, and it has influenced a lot of other games over the years. It’s good to see that it’s still doing well. The remake of Resident Evil 4 can be played on PC, Xbox Series, and PS5, and those who still have a PS4 got a version of the game as well.
But most people won’t be surprised to hear that the PlayStation 4 release doesn’t really hold up well when compared to newer systems. In the most recent issue of Digital Foundry, Eurogamer tested the remake of Resident Evil 4 on all consoles, including the PS4.
Do you know that Warhammer “40K” Boltgun, an upcoming first-person shooter (FPS), is set in the grim, dystopian year 4100, but it looks like it was made in the mid-1990s. Our report is available if you are curious about the Warhammer 40K Boltgun release date:
Even though this version is more than playable, the results show that the older system has some problems with how it looks and how it runs. For example, the report says it’s “unstable” if the frame rate is between 35 and 50 fps.
Even on the PS4 Pro, the game sometimes only runs at 20 frames per second (fps). But Eurogamer says that the game is still “respectable” on the system, even though it has “visual cutbacks” and low framerates. Several fans on the website Reddit seem to agree with the criticisms.
For example, user Sadistic Loser says the frame rate does drop and enemies “look like they were recorded using stop-motion animation.” Some people think it’s pretty clear that the game wasn’t made to run well on older hardware, which is probably why Resident Evil 4 hasn’t come to Xbox One, even though there were rumors that it might.
We don’t know if Capcom will be able to fix the problems with the PS4 version, but as of this writing, the company has not said anything. Even though the story was updated and the game was in general better than when it came out in 2005, Resident Evil 4 still left some things out.
Even though not having Quick Time Events is probably a good thing for a lot of people, there may have been some things that fans would have liked to see kept or added.
But that doesn’t change the fact that the remake is getting a lot of praise right now. Resident Evil 4 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox X/S.
