Reportedly, on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, i.e. yesterday, the Additional Secretary Technical, Road and Transport, Mahmood Ahmed said that the time from that night was the most crucial and that if everything happened right, some good news would come up the next 40 hours. The additional secretary further added that the rescue teams have been pushing 800 mm diameter pipes instead of 900 mm pipes which they were trying earlier, with the telescoping method. Mahmood Ahmed further added that the rescue teams were pushing 800 mm diameter pipes with the telescoping method. ANI quoted Mahmood Ahmed as saying on Tuesday, “We started the process of horizontal drilling from this morning on. Last week, four 900-mm-diameter pipes of 6 meters each were pushed to 21-22 meters before they hit an obstacle. Now we have decided that we will lay an 800-mm-diameter pipe through the telescoping method. We have started that work. After that, we will do further drilling inside it through the American Auger machine. For us, the entire day from tonight until tomorrow on is most important,”

NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) is also sharing details about the progress made indirection to reach the trapped workers. Currently, the rescue team’s focus is on horizontal digging instead of finding a route through vertical digging as vertical drilling faces some challenges due to rock formation. Mahmood added that from 22 to 45 meters out of the total 60-meter horizontal drilling is rubble from the Silkyara end.
