Persona 3 Remake

Persona 3 Remake: The source who initially confirmed Atlus’s plans to remake Persona 3 now confirms those plans once again. Since the release of Persona 5 Royal in 2019, Atlus has been silent on the RPG’s future, eventually bringing it to PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox consoles in 2022.

Atlus appears ready to move on to the next major Persona release now that that is behind them. Still, it could be Persona 3 all over again, not Persona 6. For many, the release of Persona 3 marked the beginning of the series’ current success.

Compared to the first two Persona games, Persona 3’s PlayStation 2 debut wasn’t particularly successful, but the game’s subsequent remakes—namely, Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable—were huge improvements.

Those games’ success in the West paved the way for the success of subsequent installments like Persona 4 and Persona 5, as well as numerous spin-offs. Atlus announced their major plans for 2023 early on New Year’s Day.

Persona 3 Remake

Remasters of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden have already been announced as the first steps in these plans. While no details were provided, Atlus did confirm that several “unreleased new titles” are in development. Since then, this has sparked a more extensive discussion amongst Persona fans.

What Persona announcements Atlus will make in 2023 has been the subject of much conjecture on ResetEra. A user brought up the long-standing rumor of a Persona 3 remake, wondering if it was still happening in light of Atlus’s recent re-release of Persona 3 Portable.

An answer came from Persona leaker lolilolailo, who had previously revealed that the series would be available on Xbox Game Pass in 2022. There is still a Persona 3 remake, says lolilolailo. After that question was answered, a follow-up comment asked why Atlus would re-release Persona 3 Portable if a remake was in the works.

To put it plainly, lolilolailo said, “It’s Atlus.” More specifically, they claim that an improved version of Persona 3 Portable will port the “entire” Persona series to modern gaming systems. Atlus can profit first from the original game and then from the remake with its Persona 5-style visuals and quality-of-life improvements.

A clarification: lolilolailo never claims that Atlus will reveal a Persona 3 remake in 2023. If there is a remake in the works, it could be quite some time before it is released. It would be a nice cushion for the re-release of Persona 3 Portable.

It is unclear what the future holds for the Persona RPG series without an official announcement from Atlus, so fans will have to keep waiting. On January 19, 2019, Persona 3 Portable will be available for purchase for PC, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
