Overwatch 2 Ramattra Release Date: Everything we know about the upcoming tank hero in Overwatch 2 so far. Blizzard’s hero shooter, Overwatch, has undergone a major overhaul with the release of Overwatch 2, with a brand new seasonal content release schedule promising players new heroes, maps, and game modes at the beginning of each season that lasts for nine weeks.
After much anticipation, the developer finally announced Ramattra as the next playable character in Overwatch 2 Season 2 during the 2022 Overwatch League Grand Finals. This omnic tank hero debuted in the 2019 ending cutscene for the Overwatch Storm Rising event.
As of yet, Blizzard hasn’t given fans a lot of information about Ramattra, but thanks to a recent preview event Windows Central was invited to, we have a few details we can spill. The following is a summary of what we know about Ramattra thus far, including his gameplay abilities, his backstory, when he will be available in-game, how you can unlock him, and more.
Ramattra will be the first #Overwatch2 Hero who will NOT be instantly available for Overwatch 1 players 🎟
The new hero will be available in the Season 2 Battle Pass — unlocked instantly for players on the Premium track but at Tier 55 for those on the free track 🔒 pic.twitter.com/VoRO8c2rAt

Overwatch 2 Ramattra Release Date
It has been confirmed by Blizzard that Ramattra will be added to the game on December 6, 2022, with the start of Season 2 of Overwatch 2. While he can be unlocked and used in Quick Play and Arcade matches immediately, he won’t be usable in ranked Competitive Play for a while.
The developers have stated that they want to give free-to-play players a substantial amount of time to acquire new heroes from the Battle Pass before they can be used Competitively. For Blizzard’s part, the extra time gives them a better chance to fine-tune the balancing of new characters so that they don’t feel too weak or too strong when they enter the metagame.
Overwatch 2 Ramattra: Gameplay Abilities
Even though Blizzard hasn’t shown off Ramattra’s full skill set just yet, we do know that he’s going to be a versatile character who can transform into two forms with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. In his “Omnic Form,” Ramattra can use his staff-type weapon to launch ranged attacks and create barriers to defend his allies. Since he is in this condition, he will be more effective at a distance.
However, when Ramattra transforms into his “Nemesis Form,” he becomes much larger and tanker, and he gains the ability to engage in close-quarters brawls with shield-piercing punch attacks.
Although Blizzard warned us that Ramattra will be an easier target for high-damage tank-busting abilities and crowd control skills like Ana’s Sleep Dart while in Nemesis Form, the ability provides Ramattra players with numerous opportunities to smash through enemy backlines and contest objectives effectively.
Knowing when to attack with Nemesis Form and when to play more passively with Omnic Form will be crucial, much like how Reinhardt players must correctly judge when to “hold W” and when to retreat.
While the designers didn’t give us any concrete details about Ramattra’s Ultimate ability, they did hint that it was close-range in nature and would allow him to occupy space by sheer force. As a result, we believe that this ability will be great for contested objectives and controlling congested areas, though it will likely be ineffective against foes located far away from Ramattra.
While details on Ramattra’s skillset are scant at the moment, Blizzard has promised to reveal more in the weeks leading up to Overwatch 2 Season 2.
Overwatch 2 Ramattra: How To Unlock?
Just like how free-to-play players needed to reach Tier 55 on the Season 2 Overwatch 2 Battle Pass to unlock Kiriko, they will need to do the same to unlock Ramattra. Players can earn XP by playing matches and completing challenges in-game, but they can also buy individual tiers of the Battle Pass with Overwatch Coins if they prefer.
Keep in mind that you can gain access to Ramattra immediately if you choose to invest in the Premium Battle Pass reward tier. Ten dollars worth of Overwatch Coins can be used to buy the Premium Battle Pass.
Overwatch 2 Ramattra: Cinematic And Origin Story
This is the canon origin story for Ramattra, which tells the tale of how he became a Shambali monk and, in response to widespread violence against Omnics, founded the anti-hate group Null Sector.
Blizzard has stated that Ramattra and Zenyatta are so close that they can be considered brothers, so players can expect to see a lot of dialogue between the two of them in-game. While Zenyatta prefers nonviolent solutions, Ramattra insists that violence and force are necessary to protect the omnics. Extremely pragmatic and sure of his beliefs, Ramattra will do whatever it takes to shield his people from the bigotry of the rest of society.
Intriguingly, players will face off against Null Sector in the upcoming 2023 Overwatch 2 PvE campaign missions.
Overwatch 2 Ramattra: Voice Actor
The British actor Ramon Tikaram, who provides the voice of Ramattra, has worked in theatre, film, television, and video games, among other mediums. Game of Thrones, Fable III, Dark Souls 3, Subnautica, Elden Ring, and more all feature his voice work.
