This year, on November 11, 2023, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport set a new record for a single day in terms of flight activity, thanks to Diwali eve for high passenger footfall. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport issued a statement that reads, “This milestone reflects CSMIA’s capability to handle increased air traffic with precision while maintaining high standards of safety, security, and passenger service,” The Mumbai airport also known as CSMIA handled around 2,894 ATMs including 2,137 domestic flights and 757 international flights, on the Diwali weekend between November 11 and November 13 this year. Out of 5,16,562 passengers, around 354,541 passengers or 69 percent traveled on domestic routes, whereas the rest 1,62,021 traveled internationally during the same time. A source claimed the Delhi airport, IGI airport recorded 3,450 ATMs and handled around 5,20,000 passengers during the Diwali weekend on the international and domestic front. For the Mumbai airport, Dubai, London, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi topped the charts for international destinations whereas domestic destinations such as Delhi, Chennai, and Bengaluru, emerged as top destinations based on overall passenger movements. In the third quarter of the calendar year 2023, it recorded a 33 percent increase in passenger traffic to 12.7 million from 9.6 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.
