Who is Memories Of Murders Real Killer?
The highly acclaimed South Korean crime thriller film Memories Of Murders is based on real-life events that happened between 1986 and 1991. The incidents that have been covered in the film reportedly took place in Hwaseong, a city in Gyeonggi Province to the south of Seoul. A serial killer made ten females his target in the aforementioned region. All the ten female victims ranged from teenagers to 70.
The serial killer raped all his victims and killed them brutally after it. The psycho-killer strangled all his victims with a piece of their own clothes. When the murder count surged in the city, people became horrified and the whole district was terrified by the fear of a serial killer. Meanwhile, the authorities started the largest criminal investigation in the history of South Korea at that time. During the investigation, police nabbed thousands of suspects and interrogated them. But for thirty years the case remained unsolved. The serial killer was never caught. Yes, you heard it right, the culprit who raped and killed many women still had not been found.
Director Bong Joon Ho had finished the shooting of Memories Of Murders but the real serial killer was not arrested. But in 2019, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency said that they matched a DNA sample with the killer at the National Forensic Service. The DNA was of Lee Choo Jae who later admitted his crime and confessed his 14 murders including 10 took place in Hwaseong. However, the perpetrator was already in jail when his DNA was matched with the serial killer’s, serving a life sentence for raping and killing his own sister-in-law.
