As per the reports, the chaos occurred due to Mdumiseni Zuma’s video which was shared to encourage people to loot and burn a mall to show support for former president Jacob Zuma after his arrest in 2021. Recently, the court announced a 12-year jail sentence for a former security officer in South Africa for inciting violent protests in support of former President Jacob Zuma. In the riot, reportedly at least 350 people lost their lives. The incumbent president Cyril Ramaphosa termed the riot “Attempted insurrection”.
