It is said that Mary Day was married to Mr. Gessler with whom she crossed paths for the first time in Arizona. After marrying Mr. Gessler, Mary Day relocated to Missouri for a new start in their lives. But on November 25, 2003, Mary Day was discovered at a traffic stop when police were checking for a stolen pickup truck. Mary Day was questioned about her disappearance and she replied that she ran away from her parents’ home to escape abuse.

Mary Day’s sister Sherrie called her to North Carolina and heard her inconsistent stories and strange behaviors due to which Mary Day had to return to Arizona where she met Gessler. It is still not confirmed if Mr. Gessler was married to Mary Day. But a police report says Gessler was abusive toward her, casting a shadow over their union. For the rest of her life, Mary Day remained in Missouri until she died in 2017. After her death, no funeral ceremony was organized for Mary Day.

In June 2017, Seaside Police Department’s Judy Veloz took over the Mary Day case and went to Missouri to speak to a dying Mary. During their conversation, Mary filled in the gaps of what happened after she vanished from her parents’ Seaside home in 1981. After nine days of their meeting, Mary Day died.
