Howard played for Washington in just nine early games before a spine injury forced him to miss the rest of the season and his The long off-season of inactivity and soul searching led to his decision to become a role-playing Lakers player.

The Washington coach, Scott Brooks, was impressed with Howard's development and said Howard was "exactly what the wizards hoped for." "Unfortunately, he was hurt, I can not say anything bad about him, he worked hard for us, but unfortunately he did not have the health to do anything for us. "
