After this deal, Jiocinema became the exclusive streaming platform in India that has more than 1000 episodes and 20 movies of the Japanese anime series in its entertainment section for kids. Billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s entertainment joint-venture Viacom18 which runs JioCinema, and video game company Nintendo and affiliates that own The Pokemon Company, have not responded to a request for comment on the financial deal. Adding child-focused content is JioCimena’s latest push to expand in the Indian streaming market which Media Partners Asia, a research firm, estimated will be worth $7 billion by 2027. After this deal with Nintendo, JioCinema is expected to add around 3,000 additional hours of children’s content, including shows and movies from Entertainment One, Cartoon Network Studios, Animaccord, and DreamWorks. Those additions will come through the existing content deals of Viacom18, or integration with its other streaming app, Voot Kids, which has shut down.
