Instagram Is Testing A Candid Challenge Feature

The IG Candid Challenges feature has been rumored to be in development on Instagram, a photo and video sharing social networking service owned by Meta Platforms Inc. This function sends a notification to Instagram users at a certain time each day, requiring them to upload a new photo on a daily basis.

Christine Pai, a spokeswoman for Meta, reportedly said that the function is a prototype being tested internally and is not being tested publicly. Whether or not this functionality will ever be made available to the general public is unclear.

New Candid Challenge Feature

Alessandro Paluzzi, on Twitter, was the first to report the update when he published a screenshot of an invitation to participate in IG Candid Challenges.

The text on his screen stated, “Insert the IG Candids of others into your tale collection. And at a certain time each day, you will be prompted to take and upload a photo for everyone to see.”

Within the function, the system will prompt the user to take a picture using both the front and back cameras at the same time at any time of day.

Instagram had already introduced a feature called “Dual,” which allows users to record video or take pictures using both the front and rear cameras at the same time. This functionality will now alert users.

Meanwhile, the new social networking app BeReal launched in late 2019, and its main concept is thought to be quite similar to Instagram’s new feature.

On their website, BeReal states, “Every day at a random time, everyone is contacted simultaneously to capture and share a Photo in 2 Minutes.” They claim it’s a novel approach to learning more about your pals outside of social settings.

Apptopia reports that, since the app’s release, 43.3 million copies of BeReal have been downloaded, with 2022 alone seeing over 40 million installations.
