IMD predicts Light Rain and Snowfall To Pour In Uttarakhand

The first snowfall of the season has poured in Uttarakhand on October 17, 2023, Tuesday. According to the India Meteorological Department, the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand witnessed the first snowfall of the session on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. The snowfall covered the whole Pithoragarh district. The famed heights of Pithoragarh region reportedly have been covered with white blankets. IMD reported that the Om and Kala Pani rocks turned white after the first snowfall of the season poured in the Pithoragarh district. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, October 17, 2023, the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand witnessed snowfall that turned the Kala Pani and Om mountains white with snow. Additionally, frost in the district also has occurred due to continuous rain and snowfall. However, the India Meteorological Department earlier announced that light rain was expected in the hills of Uttarakhand on Monday, October 16, 2023.

In addition, the IMD also predicted snowfall in some regions of Uttarakhand such as Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, and Rudraprayag districts. Furthermore, the IMD said that isolated places in Uttarakhand districts are likely to witness RWFC Delhi Thunderstorms and lighting. IMD Dehradun also predicted that very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning may occur in a few hilly areas of Uttarakhand. The weather department also predicted snowfall at places with heights of 3500 meters and above in Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand. As per IMD, very light-to-light rain is likely to pour in at isolated places in Uttarakhand.

Kindly note that the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee announced that the doors of Gangotri Dham will be closed for winter on November 14, after the Annakoot at 11.45 a.m. and the doors of Yamunotri Dham will be shut for winter on November 15, on Bhaiya Dooj. On October 24, 2023, the date for the closing of Badrinath Dham doors will be decided on Vijay Dashami in Badrinath Dham.
