IMD predicts heavy rainfall for several states
Recently in Sikkim, a cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim resulting in a flash downpour in the Teesta River in Lachen Valley which has seen 14 people dead and 102 missing. On Wednesday the National Disaster Management Authority (NDME) stated the possible cause of the flash flood in Sikkim could be a mixture of excess rainfall and a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) recent at South Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim. In West Bengal, the Met Office on Wednesday had forecasted heavy rainfall in the state during the next two days. The water level in rivers in the hill districts of Kalimpong and Darjeeling in the northern portion of West Bengal is also likely to rise. Heavy rain is very likely to happen in Nadia, North 24, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and South 24 Parganas districts in the southern part of the state till October 6. The weather department has expected isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall probably in SubHimalayan West Bengal & Sikkim from the 4th to 6th of October: Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, on the 4th and 5th October: over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the 04th-08th October.

Isolated heavy to super heavy rainfall is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya from the 4th to the 6th of October and over Manipur, Nagaland on 4 and 5 October 2023.
