Hollow Knight: Silksong, the long, long-delayed sequel to the beloved 2017 indie hit Hollow Knight, will not make it out in the first half of 2023 (hardly shocking at this point, as we’re already well into May). The game’s creator Team Cherry, announced it on Twitter with the simple statement “development is still continuing,” omitting a target release date.
Actually, there has never been a set date for the release of Silksong. But during Microsoft’s June 2022 showcase, which was supposed only to present titles coming out in the following year, it made a cameo in trailer form. (Silksong is hardly the only victim from that showcase, which also featured Starfield, Forza Motorsport, and numerous more titles postponed till late 2023 and beyond.)
“We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing,” Griffin wrote. “We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can. Expect more details from us once we get closer to release.”

Griffin’s message effectively disqualifies Silksong from participating in the Xbox and Summer Game Fest showcases, which will fill the void left by the postponed E3 this year despite the fact that the wording of the tweet does not imply that Silksong will be released soon.
Team Cherry’s refusal to provide a release date for the game is probably just a prudent measure. Release in late 2023 or a lapse into 2024 appears plausible.
