When will Grand Theft Auto 6 be officially announced?

In February 2022, as part of a larger GTA 5 and GTA Online Community Update, Rockstar Games quietly announced that development on GTA 6 is “well underway.”

Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in “active development,” adding, “On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you!”

Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, reiterated that development on GTA 6 is “well underway” in August 2022 as part of the company’s financial results report.

With development of the next Grand Theft Auto game well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

Are the latest Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks legit?

On September 18, 2022, dozens of videos and screenshots from an alleged in-development build of GTA 6 spread online, marking a first for the series. Do you have doubts about the veracity of the Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks?

And now Rockstar has confirmed the hack in a statement: Network intrusion: “An outside party gained unauthorised access to our systems and downloaded sensitive data, including prototype footage for the next Grand Theft Auto.”

Continued from previous pageWe are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way,” the Rockstar statement reads.

“When this next game is ready, we will send out another update and formally introduce it to you. For their unwavering support throughout this ordeal, we are eternally grateful.”

To avoid being “obliterated by Rockstar,” the GTA Forums have spent the 48 hours since the GTA 6 leak first appeared removing all traces of the stolen screenshots and videos.

Additionally, the GTA 6 reddit has removed all leak-related links, images, and videos and has only agreed to remain online under the following terms and conditions: “We’ll let you talk about the leak without actually attaching the leaks. Download links to the leak are not permitted in comments.”

Afterwards, both Rockstar and Take-Two, their parent company, addressed the leaks publicly. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick called the leak “terribly unfortunate” and said, “we take those sorts of incidents very seriously indeed” during a recent earnings call. Take-Two Interactive publishes Grand Theft Auto.

“There is no indication that any valuable assets were stolen, which is good news, and the leak is not likely to slow down development or cause any other problems. It’s a huge letdown, but it makes us more careful than ever about keeping our systems secure.”

Have plans for GTA 6 been put on hold?

Concerns were voiced about how the leak of the new GTA 6 would affect the ongoing development of the new Grand Theft Auto game. Since then, Rockstar has issued an official statement reassuring players that the hack will not affect the development of GTA 6, nor will it compromise the integrity of GTA 5 or GTA Online.

“We do not expect any downtime in our live game services or any permanent changes to the progress of our ongoing projects […] at this time. Plans for the next Grand Theft Auto game are moving forward as scheduled, and we’re as dedicated as ever to giving you, the players, an experience that blows away anything you could hope for from a video game.”

When will Grand Theft Auto 6 be released?

The release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 has not been announced by Rockstar Games. Even so, curious internet users have ventured their best guesses. The rumour that Grand Theft Auto 6 would take place in a futuristic version of Vice City and would be released in 2025 has been confirmed by multiple sources.

With the recent GTA 6 leaks appearing to confirm a revamped Vice City setting, perhaps a release in 2025 is on the money. However, there have been whispers that Grand Theft Auto 6 could come out as early as 2024. “current and former Rockstar staff reckon GTA 6 is still at least two years away from release, suggesting a 2024 launch,” reads the original Bloomberg article.

Further supporting this is Microsoft‘s most recent response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation into its ongoing acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Microsoft stated that “the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released in 2024” in the document. Then perhaps the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 will occur sooner than we think.

Is There a GTA 6 New Trailer Yet?

If there were, we’d tell you about it right here. The GTA 6 trailer has been frustratingly elusive, alas. Even if you don’t want to wait for Rockstar to release an official teaser, you can still find the leaked footage online.

When will Rockstar finally release a trailer for GTA 6? We don’t know for sure because the game is said to be years away. Many fans, however, are optimistic that we will be getting something soon to celebrate Grand Theft Auto’s 25th anniversary.
