Game’s Creators Craig and Neil Confirmed Season 2 Will Be Covered in two Parts

The Last of Us’s creators, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckman, said after Sunday’s season finale that they need more than one season to complete the story of the video game’s sequel, Part II.

Sunday night’s season finale of The Last of Us aired in opposition to the 95th Annual Academy Awards. The second season of the drama series, which stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, has already been ordered. Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the show’s creators, have recently stated that Season 2 of the blockbuster computer game will require more than one season to cover adequately.

The Last of Us 2 was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2020. It wasn’t until 2013 that the game’s first version was released. The tale in the sequel is more involved and has more characters. The producers announced the second season’s production while addressing the season one conclusion and its implications for the future.

The producers assured viewers in an interview with GQ magazine that Season 2 would not contain the entirety of the sequel’s plot. In response, Neil said,

“It’s more than one season.” He continued, “Some of the stuff I’m most excited for [in Part 2] are the changes we’ve discussed and seeing the story come to life again in this other version. And I think it’s exciting because it leans into those feelings you had from the game, really heavily, in a new way.”

Daniel Craig, the Emmy-winning director of the drama Chernobyl, refused to say whether the show will run for two or three seasons. He teased,

“You have noted correctly that we will not say how many. But more than one is factually correct.”

Season one’s primary characters, Joel (Pedro), Ellie (Bella), Tommy (Gabriel Luna), and Maria (Rutina Wesley), will all be back for season two, as previously announced by the showrunners. There will also be new significant characters introduced.
