Who’s involved in Freeridge?
In the new On My Block spinoff, all of the original cast members will make a comeback. Lauren Lungerich (who inked a lucrative overall deal with Netflix in 2016) and Jamie Dooner are the show’s executive producers and co-creators.
Both are working tirelessly on their next Netlfix project Boo, Bitch, which features Lana Condor. The show’s first episode featured Dooner’s contributions. Jamie Uyeshiro, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft are the core show-running team and are credited as co-creators and executive producers. Along with Netflix’s announcement, the three issued a joint statement.
While plot specifics have yet to be disclosed, Netflix has provided the following summary of what viewers can look forward to. In favor of a more fantastical tone, it seems the show will be abandoning some of the realism it had previously displayed in its depiction of gang life.
The show will thus be similar to other supernatural teen dramas on Netflix, such as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or Wednesday. Repeating the same problems and situations from the original show with a new cast and minor dialogue changes would waste time and resources for the spinoff.
The writers of Freeridge have shown that they are not only willing to stay in this fictional universe for a more extended period but also eager to develop it further and make it more accessible to readers of a wide variety of genres.

Who Are the Creators of Freeridge?
Freeridge was developed by Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, Jeremy Haft, Jamie Uyeshiro, and Jamie Dooner. On My Block was created by Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft. Iungerich’s first writing credit was for the screen version of the teen romance film 10 Things I Hate About You.
The show centered on two sisters, Kat and Bianca, who couldn’t be more different regarding their views on high school politics. They argue, fall in love, and cause mayhem as they adjust to their new home. Iungerich followed that up with her dark teen comedy not long after called Awkward.
The show’s plot is centered on a social outcast teen who, after a string of miscommunications that nearly cost her life, has an accident that everyone believes to be a suicide attempt. It ran for five seasons and launched the career of Desi Lydic, a correspondent for The Daily Show.
Eddie Gonzalez cut his teeth as a writer in Ecuador on the series La Taxista, which followed the adventures of a mountain-dwelling indigenous woman turned taxi driver on the coast.
He then transitioned into American television, penning episodes of Gang Related, which followed the lives of the LAPD’s elite anti-gang task force and their gang informant, and Empire, which depicts the rise to power of a black family at the helm of one of the most successful record labels in the world.
During the production of these two series, Gonzalez and Jermey Haft began working together professionally; the result was the writing of All Eyez On Me, the Tupac Shakur biopic they co-wrote.
