While sharing the screen with former footballer Pat Spillane and politician Mary O’Rourke on the RTE Player advice show Agony OAPs, he discussed how he was careful as a gay when working on Bosco during the 80s. He added, “They were aware. It was from a different age, which is why I was terrified of it. Not only had same-sex marriage not yet been legalized, but we’re talking about the 1980s,”  Furthermore, he added that it didn’t make him any less gay. Because he worked for the government, it meant that he had to exercise extreme caution and discretion.
