Forspoken Release Date: Square Enix’s newest role-playing game, Forspoken, features fantastical action and adventure.
The release date and trailers for this upcoming open-world game are here for your convenience. Forspoken, codenamed initially Project Athia, boasts visually stunning and mechanically intriguing gameplay, but its final form is still a mystery.
The game, created by Square Enix’s Luminous Productions studio, follows the adventures of a woman named Frey as she travels from New York to a vast parallel world.
While there, she gains extraordinary abilities and becomes embroiled in a struggle between the natives of this world and mighty beings known as “Tantas.”
Forspoken appears to be an open-world action RPG with a new, intuitive movement system. What we know at this time is detailed below.
Forspoken Release Date
As of right now, the official release date for Forspoken is January 24, 2023. The new release date was announced on social media by developer Luminous Productions, who said, “all game elements are now complete,” but that the team was moving into “the final polishing phases” of the project.
Forspoken’s release date has been pushed back yet again; the game was initially set to be released on May 24, 2022, but has now been rescheduled for October 11, 2022. Fans of the project will be relieved to hear that the delay until early 2023 is due to additional polish.
Forspoken Platforms
Forspoken will be available for the PC and, for a limited time, the PlayStation 5. It was previously unknown how long the game would be exclusive to PS5, but that date has now been revealed to be January 23, 2025.
A brief blurb in the new Play Like Never Before trailer explains the limited availability. Among the fine print is the announcement that “Forspoken will be available on January 24, 2023. PS5-only until January 23, 2025. Xbox players, I’m sorry to say that you’ll have to wait two years to play this.

Forspoken Plot
Both gameplay and cinematic story elements were on display in the first Forspoken trailer. After getting beaten up by a gang, Frey Holland (Ella Balinska) vents to her cat about how much she despises the city. Then, a portal takes her from the rooftop to another world.
As she arrives, a voice from her new bracelet informs her that she has traveled to an alternate Earth. Frey is told that she has gained access to new magical abilities that can be used in battle and swiftly travel across the game’s expansive world.
At the end of the trailer, Frey can be seen engaging in battle with a powerful sorceress named Tanta Sila, who she learns has summoned her to this fantasy world as “their last hope.” The people of this world constantly fear a sorceress or other evil magic user called a “Tanta.”

Who are the Tantas in Forspoken?
The ‘Tantas’ were heavily emphasized in early trailers for Forspoken as the game’s primary antagonists. Tanta Sila, “the strongest and most formidable of all the Tantas,” is the final boss Frey will have to face. Frey has to fight the Tantas, but who are they, and why?
Check out this entry from the PlayStation Blog to learn more about the Tantas and their criminal nature. In Forspoken’s fictional world of Athia, a council of good-natured sorcerers known as the Tantas once held power. All of the Tanta appear to be women with specialized roles in society.
But suddenly, the Tantas were corrupted, turning them from wise and beloved rulers to vicious tyrants; moreover, they appear to have stopped cooperating and the people of Athia. Tanta Prav, introduced in the second Forspoken trailer, seems even more unstable than Sila.
This meeting seems to set up Fray versus Prav as the final boss battle. They may fear Fray because she has the power to defeat the Tantas and is viewed as a potential savior by the people of Athia. However, we believe that the Tanta is merely the public face of a more sinister, unseen enemy.
Tanta Formerly in charge of Asia’s armed forces, Sila earned the nickname “Tanta of Strength” after a mysterious event known only as “the Break” transformed him into a ruthless dictator. Prev was a judge-like figure known as the “Tanta of Justice” before the Break.
On the other hand, Prav has evolved into “A callous executioner with a warped sense of justice.” When more details about the Tantas and the other Forspoken characters become available, we will share them with you.
