He was a member of the Indian Administrative Service and before taking up the role of RBI Governor, he had worked as the Finance Secretary and later as an Adviser to the Government of Karnataka. Reportedly, the former RBI Governor was 92 years old at the time of his departure. Talking of his cause of death, the exact reason for his death has not been revealed but it is said that S Venkitaramanan died from a brief illness.
