On Thursday, October 12, 2023, warriors and BSNL in Ladakh installed the first-ever Base Transceiver Station (BTS) at the forward posts of the highest battlefield at more than 15,500 feet to enhance mobile communications for the Army soldiers. The news of the first-ever mobile tower in Siachen was shared by the Fire and Fury Corps of Army based in Leh, through a social media post. It took to X formerly known as Twitter to shed light on the new Base Transceiver Station site located at an altitude of 15,500 feet.
The official post shared by the Fire and Fury Corps reads, “Siachen Warriors in collaboration with BSNL established first ever BSNL BTS at forward posts of the highest battlefield on 6 October to extend mobile communication for the soldiers deployed at more than 15,500 feet,” This development in Siachen will let the Army officials to connect with the families through mobile phones while protecting the nation at the coldest and highest battlefield.
