Final Fantasy 7: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been the subject of speculation for quite some time, with longtime Final Fantasy boss Yoshinori Kitase teasing fans with possible release dates.
Finally, this year, Square Enix announced that the second installment of their Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy would be titled “Rebirth” and that it would be released in the winter of 2023.
Square Enix has not provided further details on Rebirth, but this may not be the case for much longer. Kitase gave a brief tease about when fans may hear more about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in a year-end message given to Famitsu (translated by Gematsu).
Kitase didn’t reveal any time frames for when information about the game would be available, but he said he was looking forward to doing so.
“As the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII continues to stir the excitement with its seven campaigns, I hope to be able to deliver an update on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth when the timing is right,” Kitase told the publication. Please anticipate it with excitement!
To read between the lines, 2023 is shaping up to be a massive year for the Final Fantasy series. In addition to the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy XVI will also be coming to the PlayStation 5 in June of 2023.

Given that Square Enix will also be bringing its “Pixel Remasters” of the first six Final Fantasy games to PS4 and Switch in early 2023, this year may be the most successful in the series’ history.

Regarding Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, in particular, all that has been revealed so far is that it will be a timed exclusive to PS5, much like how the Remake was completed for PS4 when it first came out in 2020.
