Dragon Age 4 Release: Dragon Age 4's official title, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, suggests that we'll return to Thedas for a new adventure. Yes, “Dreadwolf” means the return of Solas, whose controversial role in Dragon Age: Inquisition continues to cause strife among players.
The plot of the next episode is still a mystery. Still, we know that we will be visiting Minrathous, the capital city of Tevinter, a region of Thedas that has previously only existed in legend.
On December 4th, in honor of Dragon Age Day, BioWare released a new cinematic for the game, narrated by the game's lovable storyteller and chest hair extraordinaire, Varric Tethras.
The cinematic appears to hint that Varric (along with his crossbow, Bianca) will return in Dreadwolf by summarizing Solas and his objective. We haven't visited Thedas in eight years, but with Dreadwolf, both longtime fans and newcomers can get back into the action.
BioWare has promised that the story in Dragon Age 4 will be accessible to players with no prior experience with the series, so there are plenty of reasons to look forward to the game, even if you're not a fan of RPGs in general.

The Dragon Age 4 title is Dragon Age: Dreadwolf
Since the plot of Dragon Age 4 revolves around Solas, the game is called Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. No one who has played Dragon Age: Inquisition will find that surprising. The Dread Wolf, or Solas, is a “player of dark and dangerous games,” as described by BioWare.
The developer has assured newcomers to the series that “he'll properly introduce himself when the time is right” if they haven't played Inquisition. The title was announced in a tweet from the game's official account, which also provided a link to a blog post discussing Solas's return in greater depth.
Dragon Age 4 Release
GamesBeat claims “the game is on track for release in 2023” after speaking with “people with knowledge of the BioWare title.” Considering the current state of the pandemic, the release date is reasonable, though it may be subject to change.
A recent blog post confirmed that Dragon Age 4 had entered the Alpha development stage, at which point the entire BioWare development team can play the game from beginning to end.
“We've put a lot of time and effort into the game's components until this point, but it isn't until the Alpha stage that everything starts to click into place.
We play the entire game for the first time, from the first mission's opening sequence to the final boss fight. Everything is integrated into our senses to see, hear, feel, and play it all.”
While the blog post acknowledges that “the game is not finished by any means,” passing this threshold marks significant progress toward the final product.
Also, the LinkedIn profile of the game's former lead player designer at BioWare hints that the game will be released on PS5, Xbox One, Xbox One S, and PC.

Dragon Age 4 is for newcomers and longtime players alike
BioWare has made it abundantly clear that it is designing Dragon Age: Dreadwolf with a wide range of players in mind, including both series veterans and newcomers.
As confirmed in a recent blog post, longtime players and newcomers to Thedas can look forward to meeting Solas when the time is right.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has struck a good balance between satisfying longtime fans and attracting new players (or those who may have only played DA: I years ago). Unlike the vast galaxies explored in the company's other franchises, “Dragon Age: Dreadwolf” takes players back to the familiar world of Thedas, where they can meet up with old friends and explore familiar landmarks.
“While some fans haven't touched Dragon Age since Inquisition's release in 2014, others have devoured every comic and story set in the world since then. However, some have never touched a Dragon Age game and have no idea who the bald guy is (his name is Solas).”

Dragon Age 4 behind-the-scenes look
The developers at BioWare treated us to a taste of Dragon Age 4 and a sneak peek at the upcoming adventure during Gamescom's Opening Night Live. In the video's introduction, producer Casey Hudson says the team “has been imagining new ways to use next-generation technology to bring the world of Dragon Age to life,” adding that the game is currently in the early stages of development and is planned for release on next-gen consoles.
We got to hear from some of the game's developers at BioWare, and we got to see some beautiful concept art and brief gameplay footage of the game's various environments. We also think we spotted an underwater Dorian Pavus in one of the concept drawings (because we need more Dorian).
The developers also provide intriguing tidbits that shed light on where our eventual return to Thedas will lead. According to lead writer Patrick Weekes, what happens when you don't have power and when the people in charge aren't willing to address the issues will be explored in Dragon Age 4.
This might put us in the position of a hero who steps in to do the dirty work that the powerful won't touch. Although we can only guess at this point, it has undoubtedly set our imaginations running wild, especially in light of the events of the Dragon Age Inquisition: Trespasser downloadable content.
