With Diablo IV’s imminent release in 2023, there is a lot of speculation regarding bosses, new classes, and who Lilith is, along with her role in Diablo IV.
This article will go through all of the internet’s speculations and facts about Lilith in Diablo IV.
Diablo IV – An Introduction
Diablo IV has been on every player’s mind since its reveal in early 2019 at the Blizzcon event, and for a good reason; it will be the new big game of 2023, but what exactly is it Diablo IV?
Diablo IV is a top-down Acton RPG featuring unique classes and a vast cast of dungeons and environments, all to the set of a hellish landscape. People familiar with the diablo series, which has been prominent since the early 2000s, will know of the hell set that has been prominent throughout all Diablo games. In our news section, we have covered Diablo III extensively and will give you a better look into what Diablo IV will look like in 2023. However, Diablo IV features the main villain or boss of the series as Lilith, but who is Lilith, and what does she mean for Diablo IV?
Who is Lilith?
Lilith has many titles throughout the mythology and game lore; let’s spend a few mins to get a true grasp of how grandeur of a boss Lilith is for Diablo IV.
Lilith has many titles throughout mythology, such as:
- Daughter of Mephisto
- Creator of Sanctuary
- Mother of Humanity
- Queen of the Succubi
- Lover to Inarius, a rogue angel
- Mother of the first nephalem
To the knowledgeable reader, you may have already noticed something from Lilith’s many titles. Mother of the first Nephalem, if you’ve played Diablo III, you may have put one and one together with that title; she is essentially the creator of the playable characters in Diablo III. Lilith’s title of mother of the nephalem may be a point of contention throughout the story of Diablo IV and could bring characters back into the universe from Diablo III.
Another interesting connotation from these titles is the “Creator of Sanctuary.” As we know from Diablo III, Sanctuary is the safety net or hub for all players and vendors. Knowing that Lilith is the creator of this realm will prove valuable to enrich the story of Diablo III, as, in lore, she created sanctuary as a place to avoid all war between heaven and hell.
Lilith is the Daughter of Mephisto and would often follow orders, leading to stalemates on the battlefield between heaven and hell. Still, one day, that changed when she captured the angel Inarius. She planned on torturing and manipulating him to her advantage but eventually was changed by finding commonality in building Sanctuary with the Angel.
As we said, Lilith is a complex character with a lot of lore that we could get into for hours; however, we should go over all other information relating to Lilith and what she means for Diablo IV.
Lilith in Diablo IV
As announced by Blizzard, Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto, will be the final or at least a grandeur-scaled boss in Diablo IV. We spent a good amount of time explaining Lilith was the creator of Sanctuary because there is massive speculation about Lilith being the final boss and for that fight to take place in Sanctuary.
There is a lot of poetic lore about Lilith’s final grave being the one she built when deviating from her father’s plans. It is also speculated that the player will be thwarting her plans to resurrect the Prime Evils, which was hinted at throughout the other Diablo games.
As for gameplay, we can only speculate that it is one of the hardest boss fights any ARPG can do, filled with instant kill abilities on a large scale. Since the fight will be in the sanctuary, the battle will be in a large proportion, possibly shifting from north to south throughout the fight.
We also have picture evidence from Blizzard’s cutscenes indicating what she would look like as a character model in Diablo IV. We believe she will have abilities related to her overly large “Cape wings.” Still, again, this is only speculation from players as we have no knowledge of counter abilities or builds that would be most effective against her.
Story for Players in Diablo IV
Since we know Lilith is in the game, we know that Inarius will be in it too. Inarius is currently in the depths of hell, chained by Mephisto, Lilith’s father; the player character may have to rescue Inarius or at least have to interact with him throughout the story of Diablo IV.
If we rescue him, will his love for Lilith be too great and cause him to be manipulated to her will after rescuing him? Only time will tell what the story will look like in Diablo IV, but we do know that Lilith’s plans of resurrecting the Prime Evils are on the table, so as players, we will have to stop that and put an end to her plans.
We also know that Sanctuary will be different from what Diablo III sanctuary looked like, so we know many quests will have a unique and fun first-time experience for players. Since it’s been a few years, players are welcoming that with open arms. We can also expect a lot of beautifully crafted art and cutscenes from Diablo IV just from having a small preview of it from Blizzcon 2019.
