There has been a red alert announced in all the districts of Punjab to curb rampant stubble burning. The burning of the crop residue might attract legal action against the violation. On 15th November 2023, Wednesday the air quality index in Delhi was recorded at 401. The Supreme Court has reacted toward the bad air quality in Delhi, NCR, and now this has forced the government of Punjab to take some strict measures against the burning of stubble. As per the latest report, a lot of farmer unions in Punjab have officially announced a protest on 20th November 2023 in Punjab. On 7th November 2023, the apex court official asked the movements of Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana to take a look at the crop residue burning which was stopped forthwith by saying that they cannot let people die because of the pollution. Arpit Shukla claimed that to spread awareness regarding the pollution which is caused because of the burning of stubble, all the commissioners of police and senior superintendents of the police have directed the farmers, citizens, and some stakeholders regarding the disadvantages of the burning crop residue. Till yesterday, the farm fire cases in Punjab have crossed more than 30,000 mark in just 2 months. It has been reported around 2,544 new cases have been registered of farm fires yesterday. With the rampant farm fires, the air quality has turned to the category of severe again in Delhi, NCR and it has turned to the category of very poor in Haryana.
