Dawn FM Release Date: How Much Will It Sell in Its First Week?

Dawn FM Release Date: Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd released his fifth studio album, Dawn FM. On January 7, 2022, XO and Republic Records released it to the public. Besides Jim Carrey’s narration, the album also features Lil Wayne and Tyler, the Creator on vocals and Quincy Jones and Josh Safdie on the spoken word.

The Weeknd, Max Martin, and Oneohtrix Point Never served as executive producers for the album and enlisted the help of many other talented musicians, including Oscar Holter, Calvin Harris, and the Swedish House Mafia.

As the follow-up to his fourth studio album, After Hours, The Weeknd has described the album’s concept as a kind of limbo—a journey towards the “light at the end of a tunnel” (2020). Dawn FM is a lively record with dance-pop and synth-pop songs heavily influenced by new wave, funk, and electronic dance music of the 1980s. Many reviewers praised the album for its professional sound and catchy hooks.

Four singles supported the album: “Take My Breath,” “Sacrifice,” “Out of Time,” and “Less than Zero,” with “Take My Breath” reaching the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100. On the day of the album’s release, The Weeknd hosted a DJ set at an Amazon Music event to promote his new album, Dawn FM.

In addition to releasing the album, he promoted it with a “night out at the club” themed television music special on Amazon Prime Video, complete with live performances, theatre, and performance art.

Over ten countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, ranked Dawn FM as their most popular radio station. It was the second most popular new entry on Billboard’s 200 charts.

The Weeknd went on the After Hours til Dawn Tour to promote his two albums. The tour kicked off in North America on July 14, 2022, and is set to make stops in South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Australia before wrapping up in Australia.

Dawn FM Release Date

Dawn FM (also written as dawn FM) is a forthcoming album by XO Records, set for release on January 7, 2022. The album is available for advanced download on streaming platforms.

The album’s first single, “Take My Breath,” was recently released, setting the stage for what sounds like a dark and dancy new era for The Weeknd.

A GQ critic called the 16-song collection “packed with party records.” similar to disco records played on a dance floor covered in illuminated white tiles. A mix of Quincy Jones and Giorgio Moroder with the best party music you’ve ever heard.

Quite simply, “It’s the album I’ve always wanted to make,” The Weeknd has said of his latest project.

Track titles hint at a “tale” from Quincy Jones and a mysterious closer from actor and comedian Jim Carrey titled “Phantom Regret By Jim,” but the full tracklist remains a mystery. See the complete version down below.

Get Ready for the Ultimate Album Release Party

The Weeknd has finally confirmed that the release of his highly anticipated new album, titled “Dawn FM,” will occur this coming Friday after months of teases (Jan. 7). He dropped the bombshell in a typically cryptic video that, like the rest of the videos from his last album, “After Hours,” featured him in a fancy outfit, in danger, and with a stunning woman.

Instead of the bloody nose from “After Hours,” he looks old and weary here. The clip is scored with several short excerpts of what could be his new single; the music is reminiscent of film scores. “A new sonic universe from the mind of the Weeknd” is how the album is being promoted.

In 2020, the Weeknd spoke with Variety about his friendship with actor Jim Carrey, who is also from Scarborough, Ontario. Carrey is also on the list of possible guest stars in the music video for the song teased by the snippet.

You are now listening to 103.5: Dawn FM,” the radio DJ says as the clip closes. You’ve been hiding from the truth for too long; it’s time to come out into the open and embrace whatever fate has in store for you.

Hopefully, we’ll get some clarification on what this means on Friday. Although he has released numerous songs, remixes, collaborations, and videos; starred in and co-wrote the upcoming HBO series “The Idol;” and headlined the 2021 Super Bowl Halftime show, this album is his first full-length release since his blockbuster “After Hours,” released in March of 2020.

In May, The Weeknd told Variety what the album would be titled. We snuck in a question about the new music he’d hinted at in social media posts during an interview about the Grammys’ decision to eliminate nomination-review committees (more on that here).

He concluded, “If the last record is the after hours of the night, then the dawn is coming.” Since the album’s release in August, he has made frequent allusions to the title, including releasing a video teaser alongside the single “Take My Breath.”

Over the weekend, he hinted that new information about the album would be released soon. His longtime creative director La Mar Taylor, for whom he captured a screenshot of a text message, quoted him as saying, “Music can heal, and that feels more important than another album rollout.” Let’s forget about it all and have fun with the crowd.

Even if you count his three 2011 mixtapes (collected as “Trilogy”), his “My Dear Melancholy” EP, his “After Hours (Remixes)” EP, and the dozens of other songs, remixes, and guest appearances, this album would be his fifth.
