This heart-shattering news was confirmed by Empire, the parent company of the grocer. On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the chair of Empire Jim Dickson released a statement to address David Sobey’s passing. The statement says, “David was a great grocer, a great retailer, and a great businessman who was instrumental in guiding the phenomenal growth of Sobeys from a regional grocery chain, built by his father, into a national food retailing and distribution business that today serves millions of Canadians on a weekly basis,”
Meet David Sobey’s Wife and Children
David Sobey was married to his love of life, Faye Sobey. David and Faye lived together for around 70 years. As far as we know about them, they met each other at Dalhousie University in 1950. After dating each other for a couple of years, Faye and David tied the knot in 1953. The couple set an example to everyone who knows them, their relationship has stood the test of time.
Talking about their children, the couple was blessed with two children, a boy and a girl. Their son is named Paul D. Sobey and their daughter is named Janis Sobey. Paul D. Sobey is living with his wife Marsha Sobey while their daughter Janis Sobey is happily married to Christopher Hames.
