In the new update of the X platform), IMD has announced that the serious Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal finally strengthened into Cyclonic storm Michaung at 5:30 am Sunday. The weather forecaster has written, “Deep Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal boosted into a Cyclonic Storm MICHAUNG 0530 hrs IST 3rd December over the same area about 30 km east southeast of Puducherry, 440 km southeast of Nellore, 550 km south-southeast and 310 km southeast of Chennai of Machiliptnam.” Swipe up the next page for more information about the news.

IMD has given a rainfall alert for four districts in Tamil Nadu in connection to Cyclone Michaung. The weatherman has indicated heavy rain in isolated areas in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts in the next 24 hours. IMD also predicated medium showers with light thunderstorms and lightning at multiple locations in these districts.

Cyclone Michaung has been anticipated to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore on 5 December 2023 with a supported wind speed of 80-90 kmph, gusting to 100 kmph.

In an interaction with news agency ANI, IMD Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre MD Sunanda described ANI ” The profound depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal transferred west northwestwards with a speed of 18 kmph during the past 6 hours and lay centred on 2 December over the same region near Latitude 10.6°N and Longitude 83.6°E.

IMD has cautioned fishermen not to venture into the sea due to harsh sea situations. Because of the warning, over 5,000 fishermen did not go fishing and approximately 1,000 boats were docked at Pulicat Lake in Tiruvallur.
