A Guide to the Epic Strategy Game Clash of Clans!

Clash of Clans: Developed and published by Finnish studio Supercell, Clash of Clans first appeared in 2012 as a freemium mobile strategy game. On August 2, 2012, the game debuted on iOS, and on October 7, 2013, it debuted on Google Play for Android.

The player assumes the role of a village chief in a persistent fantasy world. Clash of Clans aims for players to construct a thriving community by plundering other players’ settlements, either for the resources they contain or the medals they earn for attacking and raiding other players’ villages.

Gold, elixir, and dark elixir are the primary materials. Players can band together into clans of up to fifty members, engage in Clan Wars, share troops, and have in-game conversations. Thirty people are needed to start a Clan War. Many reviewers praised Clash of Clans upon its release.

Supercell created four related games in the same world as Clash of Clans. The first of these games, Clash Royale, came out in 2016.

The April 2021 announcement included the other three games: Clash Quest, Clash Minis, and Heroes. On August 17, 2022, the development of Clash Quest was halted permanently.

Clash of Clans Gameplay

In Clash of Clans, players organize into groups called clans, build armies, and wage war against one another to amass resources and win the game. The game features four distinct currencies or materials.

Defenses and traps can be constructed and upgraded with gold and elixir to protect the player’s village from attacks from other players. Upgrades to troops and spells can also be purchased with elixir and dark elixir.

It used to be that they were also used to train the troops, but these days that process is done for free. Coins are not as valuable as gems. There is a three-star system for rating attacks; each attack can last no longer than three minutes.

An optional “single-player” campaign allows players to take on a series of fortified goblin villages in search of loot and experience (and dark elixir in higher levels).

A free builder is required to perform an upgrade. Two builders are available at the outset, with a maximum of five available after spending gems on them and a sixth after reaching Builder Base 9 and unlocking the O.T.T.O Hut.

Clash of Clans: Is Town Hall 16 coming in 2023?

Clash of Clans experienced unprecedented growth in 2022. For its 10th Clashiversary, the popular action-strategy game received a slew of significant updates, including the introduction of the Clan Capital and Town Hall 15.

Clash of Clans’ biggest-ever update, Town Hall 15, was released in October by Supercell. New Defenses, the Electro Titan troop, the Battle Drill Siege Machine, the Recall spell, and new Hero Pets were introduced in Town Hall 15.

There was a lot for Clash of Clans players to enjoy this year, with the release of Town Hall 15 and the introduction of the Clan Capital earlier in the year. What new features might we see in Clash of Clans in the coming year?

We know that Supercell is currently working on an update to Builder Base. Clash of Clans Builder Base was once an exciting new addition and refreshing change of pace from the game’s legal battles, but it has since fallen out of favor.

A few months ago, Supercell admitted to making changes to Builder Base and gave some details about the new method, including its primary flaws. Until it arrives in the first half of 2023, this will be one of the year’s primary concerns.

We can only speculate about what else may be in store for Clash of Clans. We know that players are wondering if Town Hall 16 will be released in 2023, which is a reasonable question.

Since Town Hall announcements tend to occur regularly, I wouldn’t hold out much hope. Supercell updated a blog post before the release of TH15 in which they stated their goal of “about 18 months between introducing new Town Hall levels.”

Using this schedule as a benchmark, we might not see Town Hall 15 until the latter half of 2024. Assuming that Town Hall 15 is released in October, then 18 months from then would be around April 2024, right in line with the Spring update.

Town Hall 14 was originally published in the spring of 2021. We hope 2023 will bring additional surprises to Clash of Clans from Supercell.

2022 was a massive year for Clash of Clans

Supercell has released a Year in Review video for Clash of Clans as we near the end of 2022. It was a monumental year in the long-running action strategy game, what with the debut of the Clan Capital, the release of Town Hall 15, and the game’s 10th anniversary.

Throughout 2022, there were four significant revisions. Let’s do a quick rundown, though the video below does an excellent job recapping everything that was added to Clash of Clans in 2022.

Some interesting visual changes were made in the winter, but the first significant update introduced the Clan Capital in the spring.

This is a new region where clans can collaborate to construct a capital and raid each other on the weekends. The Clan Capital has been well-received because it introduces a cooperative gameplay mechanic.

This past summer, Supercell significantly changed the game by doing away with the requirement to train Troops, Spells, and Siege Machines.

This made it possible for players to try out new offensive strategies without risking their game’s progress or resources. In addition, the Summer Patch mainly aimed to strike a good balance between the features available in the Clan Capital.

Then the Clashiversary—the 10th anniversary of Clash of Clans—arrived. Supercell went with this one, even going so far as to release a fake documentary about Clash of Clans’ history that has hidden connections to the game’s narrative.

The highlight was the Arcade minigames that could be played within Clash of Clans; we also received unique landscapes and cosmetic skins.

The most significant change came from the autumn update, which included the long-awaited Town Hall 15 addition. Clash of Clans’ latest update was by far the biggest one they’ve ever released.

In addition to the usual adjustments to Building/Defense balance and leveling that come with a new Town Hall level, we also received the Electro Titan Troop, the Battle Drill Siege Machine, the Recall Spell, four new Hero Pets, and the new Town Hall level itself.

Even though it was much smaller, the December update added the Super Miner, a new Capital District (Skeleton Park), and a seasonal troop of Ram Riders.

2014 was hectic for Supercell and the Clash of Clans development staff. Supercell has hinted at a Builder Base overhaul coming in the first half of 2023, so the following year could be just as exciting. What do you hope to see from Clash of Clans in 2023?
