Take-Two Interactive, the studio’s parent company, revealed that Firaxis Games is working on the next Civilisation in a statement on Friday. Despite the lack of a release date or window, Civilisation 6’s launch six years ago was a commercial and critical success on five platforms.
In addition to announcing the promotion of Heather Hazen to Firaxis studio chief and the departure of longtime developer Jake Solomon, Take-Two and 2K Games also disclosed the development in a news release. Hazen formerly served as the COO of Firaxis Games.

Hazen stated in the statement.
“I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to carry on the studio’s storied legacy, beginning with the announcement that Firaxis is in development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise.”
Hazen continued,
“I’m lucky to be working with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world. In addition, we will continue to support Marvel’s Midnight Suns with post-launch content, and explore new creative projects for our teams.”
When Marvel’s Midnight Suns from Firaxis debuted in December to favorable reviews, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, claimed that the game’s sales were not as strong.

Two significant expansions (Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm) and more post-launch downloadable material were provided for the game, with the most recent of them arriving in November.
According to Take-Two, Civilisation 6 has sold more than 65 million copies so far. Ed Beach will remain as the game’s creative director, according to a statement from Take-Two. In addition to directing Civilisation 6, Beach worked as a designer on Civilization 5.
