Capcom Considering New Mega Man Games

Capcom states that it is “considering how to approach” future Mega Man game development. In recent years, a number of compilations of older Mega Man games have been released, but there have been few wholly new entries in the series.

In the past 15 years, only Mega Man 9 (2008), Mega Man 10 (2010), and Mega Man 11 (2018) have been released as significant titles.

The most recent retro compilation, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, has sold more than 1 million copies since its April release, a shareholder noted during a Q&A session following the company’s most recent annual meeting of shareholders.

Did you know that Blizzard’s action RPG Diablo 4 recently received a modest update that largely addressed bugs and playability issues? The minor patch, which was announced a few hours after the second Diablo 4 Developer Livestream, is now available for installation on all supported platforms:

The shareholder suggested that this may have contributed to “user expansion” and inquired about Capcom’s future intentions for the Mega Man series.

Capcom replied –

“Including Mega Man 11, the latest entry in the franchise, Mega Man is one of Capcom’s historic IPs and is loved by fans, and as such we want to take care in how we develop the series.”

“We are considering how to approach the production of new entries in the series, which requires numerous factors, including the development of a solid concept, ideas and gameplay, etc.”

When asked explicitly about more ports or retro compilations, the company responded –

“We are considering our approach to ports of past entries titles, which includes addressing technical issues.”

In its 36-year history, the Mega Man series has sold more than 38 million units, according to Capcom’s own internal data.
