With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the zombies mode gained three maps, new weaponry and gameplay, and a plethora of easter eggs. The Zombies mode has been a fan favorite for ten years, and Black Ops 4 marks Treyarch’s fifth time helming the method.
Here’s everything you need to know about Black Ops 4 Zombies so you can start mowin’ down waves upon waves of the undead with your trusty Pack-a-Punched MGs. Black Ops 4’s zombies will feature new and old gameplay elements and the return of famous figures like Richtofen and “Tank” Dempsey.
Black Ops 3’s zombies mode went to some ridiculous new locales, like fighting dragons amid the ruins of Stalingrad. Treyarch will begin this year’s undead horde mode with some similarly outlandish scenarios. So, we will keep this short and sweet and review everything we know about the zombie’s mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, from Custom Mutations to the launch maps.
Further guides detailing everything from IX easter eggs to the locations of shields and Pack-a-Punch machines on each map will be added to this hub in the weeks following the game’s release.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 zombies maps
On the day Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is released, those who purchase the base game will get access to three zombie maps: IX, Voyage of Despair, and Blood of the Dead. Classified, the fourth Zombie map will be available at launch for those who buy the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Season Pass or one of the premium versions of the game. You can see a video of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies Gameplay below:
Black Ops 4 IX Map
In IX, our heroes, the Chaos crew, travel back in time to ancient Rome and find themselves in the coliseum facing off against legions of undead. This map stands out from the crowd because it takes place during the day, but after more of it is unlocked, you’ll find a mysterious temple and a labyrinth of underground tunnels.
The main gladiator ring (the center of the map) is where you begin. Two of the four gates around the arena can be opened after a few matches, providing access to areas above and below the map. Black Ops 4’s Zombies premiere map, IX, is the most open and straightforward of the bunch, with plenty of room to maneuver away from hordes of the undead.
The Blight Father, several Marauders, and the Gladiators are the lesser bosses in IX. You’ll have to defend yourself from tigers in special rounds rather than wolves. Keep an eye out for components for a shield and numerous traps as you explore the map in your pursuit of survival.
If you want to know how to trigger and complete the primary IX easter egg, you should go no further than this helpful advice by Zombies YouTuber MrRoflWaffles. If you are starting on this map, this fast tutorial will help you unlock the IX Pack-a-Punch machine as soon as possible.
VOYAGE OF DESPAIR
Voyage of Despair is the second brand-new Black Ops 4 zombies map and features the new Chaos crew. The story takes place on the doomed RMS Titanic shortly after it collided with an iceberg. Thus our ragtag group of survivors will have to figure out how to get off the ship. In the Voyage of Despair gameplay video, you can see us battling the zombie hordes in action.
The Journey of Despair Pack-a-Punch machine is the only one we’ve located. Getting around on this map is significantly more challenging than in IX since many minor, confined passages exist. Teleportation portals are strategically placed across the map to let you escape danger for a small fee if you ever find yourself in over your head. Boss fights against the Stoker and Blight Father are particularly challenging due to the confined nature of the arena.
The main tale easter egg in Journey of Despair has been solved, so those interested can rest easy. For a comprehensive walkthrough of Voyage of Despair, check out MrDalekJD’s video guide on Zombies.

Blood of the Dead
Blood of the Dead is a reimagining of the Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary-based Mob of the Dead map from Black Ops 2. The original Primis gang is in purgatory and will be featured on this map. The video shows the gameplay of the revamped game’s new unlock system and room layout up top.
The Blundergat and Hell’s Redeemer are two of the many returning mechanisms and weaponry from the base map that may also be found in Blood of the Dead. The Zombies create-a-class menu grants you access to various unique weaponry as you level up, from Takeo’s sword to Dempsey’s minigun.
