Bihar Train Accident

Reports have claimed that over 12 coaches of the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express de-tracked in Bihar’s Buxar district near Raghunathpur station in the night on Wednesday, October 12, 2023. The first update that we received from the railway authorities about this tragedy was that 6 people lost their lives and over 100 were injured in this accident. Reportedly, 12 bogies derailed from the track. The emergency services quickly responded to the scene while the hospitals including AIIMS, PMCH, and IGIMSĀ  at Patna, Buxar, and Ara were directed to keep beds ready for the victims of the train accident.

Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to X and extended his condolences to the families of the victims. The railway minister also ensured that evacuation and rescue operations had been successfully completed. He wrote, “Will find the root cause of derailment. Rescue operation going on at war footing at Buxar derailment site. SDRF, NDRF, Railway officials, District administration, and local residents are all working as one team. The injured were shifted to the hospital. War room operating,” Notably, the chief minister of Bihar state, Nitish Kumar expressed his pain over the tragic deaths of six passengers and offered an ex-gratia of Rs 4 Lakh to their families.

A report has claimed that a total of 21 coaches of the express train were derailed in the night after the 23-coach 12506 North East Express departed the Anand Vihar railway station in Delhi at 7:40 am and commenced its 33-hour journey on Wednesday night. Reportedly, the train was around 6 Km away from Guwahati while heading toward Kamakhya, when it derailed from the track. A local resident said that the train was running at a normal speed but suddenly passengers heard a loud sound and witnessed smoke rising out of the train. “We saw that the train had derailed and the AC coaches were the most damaged,”
