This guide will tell you all you need to know to get the most advanced Battlefield game on your computer. Good news for shooter fans: the beta for Battlefield 2042 is now available on all platforms (people who preorder get early access from Oct. 6-7). With its massive maps, dynamic and catastrophic weather systems, and expansive advancement system, Battlefield 2042 is perhaps the most ambitious Battlefield game to date.
There is also a Portal mode that lets you play as a faction from an older Battlefield game with weapons, vehicles, and gadgets from that game on remastered versions of maps from earlier Battlefield games. With improvements like these, Battlefield 2042 has a real shot at being the best Xbox shooter of all time.
If you’re interested in trying out the beta for yourself, you needn’t worry; we’ve got a whole guide to downloading the Battlefield 2042 beta, covering everything from what to expect to the size of the download and the steps you’ll need to do to get it installed.
What To Expect From Battlefield 2042 Beta?
The Battlefield 2042 beta, which runs from October 6-10, gives gamers a taste of the whole game. All test participants will get access to the map Orbital, which can hold up to 128 players and has a giant rocket ship that will blast off at some point throughout each match.
Conquest, a Battlefield mainstay, is the prominent game mode of the beta, with each team capturing points and scoring kills to deplete the other’s tickets. Notably, 128-player matches will only be available on Xbox Series X, Series S, PS5, and PC, while Xbox One and PS4 gamers will be confined to 64-player matchups.
The four Specialists available to players at each spawn are MacKay, Boris, Falck, and Casper. MacKay has a grappling hook, Boris can set up sentry turrets, Falck can heal friends with his special S21 Syrette pistol, and Casper can scout with his drone. A Specialist can carry a variety of weapons, including primary and secondary weapons, as well as grenades and gadgets. There are no official classes in this Battlefield game, thus players are free to combine weapons and armor that were once only available to specific classes.

Vehicles like tanks, armored ground vehicles, helicopters, aircraft, and more are available to players during each round. Although only a limited number of these vehicles can be in play at once, players can have them “hot dropped” to them utilizing the vehicle call-in system. Check out our comprehensive list of vehicles in Battlefield 2042 to learn more about what ships you can pilot during the beta.
In particular, the beta lacks the game’s full progression system. Players may or may not be able to acquire a large variety of weapons, weapon attachments, and other gadgets after the game’s complete release. In the beta, players can equip the new “plus system” to their weapons with a variety of starter attachments.
When Is The Battlefield 2042 Beta Available For Download?
Downloads of the Battlefield 2042 beta are now live on Xbox’s Microsoft Store and Steam, Origin, the Epic Games Store, and the EA app on PC. The game’s early access period is already available for those who preordered, but on October 8 at 5 a.m. ET / 2 a.m. PT, the open beta will begin, allowing anybody to launch and play the game.
Battlefield 2042 Beta Download Size
The beta version of Battlefield 2042 is rather huge, clocking in at 100GB according to official messages from EA and DICE. While this may sound like a lot, the beta is only just 19-20GB on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. The file sizes for Xbox One and PS4 users are reduced to 10GB.
Beta updates over the beta’s lifespan could either increase or decrease the beta’s overall file size, therefore it’s a good idea to leave some room on your hard drive. The system requirements for the Battlefield 2042 beta are detailed here.

Battlefield 2042 Gameplay
Battlefield 2042 continues the series’ tradition as a multiplayer-focused first-person shooter. Because of its near-future setting, the game includes advanced technology in the form of weaponry and vehicles, such as turrets that may be deployed and drones that players can pilot. A player may request an airdrop of a vehicle to any destination.
The “Plus” feature, which was introduced in the game, lets players modify their weapons on the fly. Players can now take control of a specialist from any of the four conventional Battlefield gaming classes—Assault, Engineer, Medic, or Recon—thanks to a reworked and simplified class structure.
Any weapon or item a player acquires for their character will be available to them. It’s important to remember that each operator brings their own special set of abilities and equipment to the table. One of the experts, Emma “Sundance” Rosier, has a wingsuit, and another, Maria Falck, has a healing pistol.
Battlefield 2042 features the return of devolution and devastating environments from Battlefield 4, as well as dramatic weather events like tornadoes and sandstorms that may have an impact on the game. At launch, the game’s seven maps included ‘Breakaway,’ the largest map in the series history.
There are three primary ways to play the game. Both the Breakthrough and Conquest game modes are included in “All-Out Warfare,” two of the series mainstays. In Conquest, two opposing factions engage in battle for the right to rule a given region. In Breakthrough, each side takes turns trying to seize and defend the opposing team’s control locations. You can play with or against computer-controlled opponents in either mode.
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions support 64 players maximum, whereas the Windows, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions support 128 players maximum in a single match. Battlefield 2042 is the first installment in the series to enable cross-platform play between PC, PS5, and Xbox One S consoles. While the feature is available in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions, it is exclusive to those platforms.
Battlefield Portal, the game’s second main mode, is a user-generated online hub. Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 maps are available in Portal for gamers to use in creating their unique multiplayer scenarios. With a web-based scripting tool, players may also alter fundamentals like health, weapon loadouts, and movement.
Hazard Zone, a co-op multiplayer mode, is the third playable setting. Each player participates in a team, and the objective is to be the first to recover and extract data discs from the wreckage of downed satellites. Enemy combatants protected these data discs using computer-controlled players. Credits for the “black market” are awarded to players upon successful data drive extraction. In this phase, you can spend these credits on new weapons and upgrades.
Final Words
Battlefield 2042 is a first-person shooter developed by DICE and distributed by Electronic Arts. Released on Windows, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2021, Battlefield 12 is the twelfth main installment in the Battlefield series. Battlefield 2042, unlike its predecessors, is focused entirely on online multiplayer and does not feature a single-player story mode.
It’s the first game in the series to allow for play across platforms. Technical concerns, a lack of features, and some alterations to the gameplay all contributed to Battlefield 2042’s lukewarm response among players and lukewarm reviews among critics. As a result, sales of the game fell short of what Electronic Arts had hoped for.
