Some of you may remember that back in 2009, Ubisoft created and released a video game based on James Cameron’s Avatar to coincide with the release of the film. And here we are, more than a decade later, at square one. To get you ready for the game’s release, we’ve compiled all the information you’ll need about Ubisoft’s upcoming title.
Exactly what is it, and who is responsible for making it? Massive Entertainment, the studio behind Ubisoft’s acclaimed The Division series, has created a first-person action-adventure game called Frontiers of Pandora. Ubisoft claims that players will experience the “alluring world of Pandora with all its beauty and danger in an immersive, open-world experience.”
Ubisoft is not the only company involved, Disney, which owns the rights to the IP, and James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment are also contributing.
For those who are interested, we have also reported on the upcoming release of a number of other games:
- Starfield Release Date Trailer Featuring All-New Gameplay Features.
- Caverns of Mars: Recharged Release Date And Preview Announced.
The newest iteration of Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine, which also drives The Division series, is being used to create Frontiers of Pandora.
Frontiers of Pandora is only being made for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Ubisoft claims that players will be transported to the “alluring world of Pandora, with all its beauty and danger, in an immersive, open-world experience.”
What is the story? Players of Frontiers of Pandora will find an original story that stands apart from The Way of Water. The player assumes the role of a Na’vi and embarks on an adventure to Pandora’s unexplored Western Frontier.
“Explore a living and reactive world inhabited by unique creatures and new characters, and push back the formidable RDA forces that threaten it,” reads a line from the game’s description.
When Will Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Be Available?
Frontiers of Pandora has not yet been given a firm release date by Ubisoft. Ubisoft’s fiscal year 2023-24 begins on April 1, 2023, and ends on June 30, 2024, so we know it will be released during that time.
Ubisoft probably would have liked to cash in on the anticipation surrounding The Way of Water by releasing the game sooner. Though no gameplay footage for Frontiers of Pandora has been shown off, Ubisoft has released a number of screenshots. They portray its vast and lovely world, complete with the animals and technology that inhabit it.
However, keep in mind that Ubisoft has yet to release any actual gameplay footage for the title, and instead has only released a cinematic trailer.
